My name?

My name is John but many know me as Squirt’s Dad (@squirtsdad on Twitter).

About Me

I grew up in California.  Skateboarding, surfing and playing guitar were pretty much my life.  Around the time I was 20 years old I moved to Belize, my home country.  With that move came some disappointments–it seemed like I was the only skater within a thousand miles, there was a barrier reef which meant no ride-able waves and I knew no one, forget anyone else that played guitar.  It was tough but it is the Caribbean so things obviously grew on me.

I met my wife in 2001 but we didn’t start dating until a few years after that.  We already knew each other so it got serious quickly.  That’s pretty much when I became a step-dad to a beautiful six-year-old girl and we all moved in together.  About a year later our son, Squirt, came along and that’s when things really started to get interesting.

So what is Guy Wisdom For My Son about?

I started this blog in 2008 when my son was one year old.  It is an ongoing 18 year project in the making.  It is all about advice and wisdom, from my life, that I would like to pass on to my son.  Topics range from quotes, personal stories, experiences to bits from around the web.  Some will be light-hearted and others will be a bit more profound.  I hope you enjoy them.
